Woman Dies In San Leandro House Fire

SAN LEANDRO (CBS/AP) -- Fire officials say a blaze at a San Leandro home that killed a woman and her two dogs appears to have started in the kitchen or hallway and spread to the attic.

The victim of the Monday morning fire has been identified as
48-year-old Valorie Rogers-Rumph. Alameda County fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles says firefighters pulled Rumph from her bedroom after arriving at the scene a little past 7:10 a.m.

Smoke was pouring out of the home's attic. The fire was put out in about ten minutes, but Rumph was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Her two dogs, a rottweiler and a pit bull, were found dead in a hallway. They were not chained or caged.

Fire officials say the home did not have working smoke alarms. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
