Woman Arrested For SF Auto Burglary Slips Out Of Handcuffs, Re-Arrested Next Day
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A woman brought to a San Francisco police station in connection with an auto burglary case slipped out of her handcuffs and fled on Sunday before being found and re-arrested a day later, a police spokesman said Tuesday.
Sonya Espinoza, 20, and another suspect were brought to the Northern Station at 1125 Fillmore St. after allegedly committing a car burglary near Polk and Hayes streets at about 5 p.m. Sunday, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.
Espinoza initially lied to officers about her identity and declined to be interviewed about the burglary case, and was then handcuffed, Shyy said.
However, she was somehow able to slip out of the cuffs, possibly using a metal shim, and left the station, police said.
Officers eventually tracked her down and re-arrested her at about 5 p.m. Monday at an apartment in the 200 block of Van Ness Avenue, Shyy said.
Espinoza was booked into jail on suspicion of escaping custody and on an outstanding warrant out of Alameda County for possession of a controlled substance, according to Shyy.
Her alleged accomplice, 37-year-old Rayleand Barnett, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, altering markings on an imitation firearm, probation violation and conspiracy, Shyy said.
