Woman Accused Of Trying To Run Over Ex-Boyfriend In Petaluma
PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- A Marin County woman was arrested in Petaluma over the weekend after allegedly trying to run down her ex-boyfriend with her car, a police sergeant said Monday.
Police went to a home in the 300 block of Stuart Drive, east of U.S. Highway 101, around 2 p.m. Sunday to help the fire department with a reported structure fire, Petaluma police Sgt. Marty Frye said.
Instead of a fire, officers found that a vehicle had struck another car in the driveway of the home. The high-speed collision had pushed the car in the driveway into the front of the home, Frye said.
Witnesses told police that the driver, later identified as 39-year-old Dinora Alvarado, accelerated as she drove north on Stuart Drive, then veered off the road and almost struck her ex-boyfriend on the sidewalk, as well as a young child who was in the driveway, Frye said.
After Alvarado's car hit the vehicle in the driveway, Alvarado kept pressure on the gas pedal, which created a large amount of smoke from the spinning tires, Frye said.
Alvarado then allegedly got out of her vehicle, assaulted her ex-boyfriend and threw items at him before he retreated indoors, Frye said. She tried to flee but was detained by police a short distance away, the sergeant said.
Frye said Alvarado told investigators that she saw her ex-boyfriend on the sidewalk and intentionally sped toward him to try to kill him because she believed he had dated a mutual friend of theirs.
The ex-boyfriend and the child were not injured, and Alvarado was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence and child endangerment, Frye said. She was booked into Sonoma County Jail and was being held on $30,000 bail.
Frye said Alvarado is on probation for a Marin County domestic violence incident that also targeted the ex-boyfriend.
