Witnesses Sought In I-80 Freeway Shooting In Vallejo Last Friday
VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- Solano County sheriff's deputies are looking for witnesses to the shooting of a driver on Interstate Highway 80 near Vallejo on Friday afternoon.
A 26-year-old Vacaville man was shot once in the neck on eastbound Highway 80 at American Canyon Road around 4:40 p.m. He was taken to a hospital and released later in the evening, sheriff's Deputy Christine Castillo said.
The victim's 5-year-old son who was in the car was not injured, Castillo said.
The victim's white 4-door Mercedes-Benz crashed into shrubs on the side of the highway. The shooting suspect may have been driving a dark-colored SUV but there is no other description of the vehicle, according to Castillo.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Solano County sheriff's dispatch center at (707) 421-7090 or Crime Stoppers at (707) 644-STOP.
A spate of shootings along the stretch of I-80 in Richmond and nearby state Highway 4 have led to collisions, injuries and even death.
Friday's incident follows a trend of 20-plus shootings that have been reported on highways in Contra Costa and Alameda counties since November of last year.
Following a series of shootings along Highway 4, city officials in Pittsburg unanimously approved the installation of surveillance cameras along the freeway.
