With Newsom's Departure, San Francisco Searches For New Mayor
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Although Election Day is over for the city of San Francisco, there is still one item that needs to be addressed.
Who will take over as mayor of the city once Gavin Newsom heads to Sacramento to become Lieutenant Governor?
KCBS' Barbara Taylor Reports:
Initially, Board of Supervisors President David Chiu will take the position.
"I am open to a number of possibilities," Chiu said. "But my responsibility at this time is to focus on insuring an orderly transition of leadership."
Chiu could hold onto the job or the supervisors could choose from a wide range of other possible candidates.
Two people who have taken their names out of the running are former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown and State Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, who said he doesn't want the job.
"I feel pretty satisfied in Sacramento. I think that's the place for me to be," Ammiano said.
Newsom will leave office in January.
