Winter Weather Across Country Cancels More Bay Area Flights
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Seven flights into and out of San Francisco International Airport have been canceled on Tuesday morning due to icy weather in other parts of the country.
Officials at SFO told KCBS the flights affected are those to and from Dallas Fort Worth, JFK and Newark Liberty International Airport on American, United and Virgin America airlines.
One American Airlines flight from Mineta San Jose to Dallas Fort Worth and another heading back to SJC were canceled. Delta's de-icing equipment at Terminal A serves other airlines, but it broke down unexpectedly.
Airport Spokesperson Rosemary Barnes said five airlines in all were impacted. Barnes said the affected aircraft had to be sprayed down with de-icer from Terminal B or they did it the old-fashioned way— by getting planes out of the shade and waiting for the sun to do its thing.

Eight flights had up to two-hour delays. Passengers were disappointed the airlines didn't have a backup plan for cold mornings like this.
Freeze warnings are so rare at SJC that only three airlines have de-icing rigs, which are then contracted out to other airlines.
There have been no weather related cancellations into or out of Oakland.
