Wind Storm Leaves Santa Cruz County Customers Without Power
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY (KCBS) – Over a thousand customers are still without power in Santa Cruz County, days after a powerful windstorm hit the area.
Pacific Gas and Electric crews have been working to restore power to almost 30,000 residents in the community, as heavy winds caused outages on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:
"We're actually on schedule. As of last night, we had expected to get close to or more than half of those customers back that were out and we did so," said PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi. "We're still working on these remaining customers and we're fairly confident we should get these customers back throughout the course of the night tonight."
Guidi said they have had some problems with the terrain in some of the most remote areas.
"At times, we do have access issues getting in," he said. "So our crews have been working as quickly and safely as possible. We have dedicated all resources to the area and have brought in over 90 additional crews to that area as well as the Tuolumne County area."
About 1,700 people are still without power in Tuolumne County.
Guidi said that at the height of the windstorms last week, more than 545,000 customers were left in the dark throughout PG&E's service area.
