Bay Area Bracing For More Thunderstorms, Lightning
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — More rain, thunder and even a dusting of snow are in the forecast for the Bay Area Tuesday.
"The next wave of energy is going to take a nosedive in a southwesterly direction," said Weather Anchor Roberta Gonzales who said the thunderstorms Tuesday would be more isolated than Monday's activity.
Several lightning strikes had already been reported in Contra Costa county by sun-up. The precipitation overnight even left snowflakes on top of Mount Hamilton.
Temperatures will remain cold through Tuesday as unstable air moves over the region.
"We could even see some small hail," said Roberta.
The primary band of the storm will likely strike during the evening commute, bringing heavy rain. Prior to that, we'll see spotty showers for much of the day.
Wednesday will offer a chance to dry out, with another possibility of rain coming Thursday.
A winter weather advisory was in effect for the northern Sierra Tuesday, with an additional one to three inches of snow expected.
On Monday lightning damaged a home in Sausalito and stuck a 100-foot tree in Berkeley causing it explode and damage several homes in the area, including one that was red tagged.
An Alaska Airlines flight managed to land safely in Oakland after it was struck by lightning. There were no injuries or damage to the plane.
