will.i.am Calls NFL Sponsor Rules 'Weird' After Kaepernick Fined $10K For Wearing Beats Headphones
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Performer will.i.am was an early investor in Beats By Dre -- the same headphones that got 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick in trouble with the NFL. He told KPIX 5 he doesn't understand the NFL's need to enforce the strict rules.
Kaepernick was fined $10,000 for wearing the headphones in a press conference following a game in Santa Clara last week.
The NFL doesn't want Kaepernick to wear them at official events because of it's sponsorship deal with rival Bose.
"How can you do that?" will.i.am said. "How can you tell players that they can't? How can a company tell the people that play that they have to abide by these rules of product? That's weird to me. Like, our industry doesn't do that."
On Wednesday, the NFL cut Kaepernick's $11,000 "swearing fine" in half after finding no evidence that he actually hurled a racial slur at a Chicago Bears players last month. Instead, the fine came out of his use of foul language
