Thompson Fire in Butte County prompts slew of evacuation orders near Oroville
BUTTE COUNTY – Evacuation orders and warnings have gone out in part of Butte County near Oroville due to a wildfire on Tuesday.
Cal Fire has named the incident the Thompson Fire, which started in the area of Cherokee Road and Thompson Flat Cemetery.
As of 3 p.m., the Butte County Sheriff's Office says Evacuation Orders are in place for the following zones: 534-536, 700-730, 851, 953-954, 960, 964, and part of 965 north of Highway 162.
The Evacuation Warnings in effect for Zones 958, 959 and 800 have also been upgraded to orders as of 2:45 p.m.
Cal Fire says the wildfire has grown to 125 acres as of 1:30 p.m., along with a spot fire across the diversion pool along Lakeland Boulevard that has grown to about 30-40 acres. Ground and air resources are at the scene.
An evacuation shelter is now open at the Oroville Church of the Nazarene at 2238 Monte Vista Avenue.
