Wildfire Burns Hundreds Of Acres In Altamont Pass Area
TRACY (CBS SF) -- Firefighters have contained a large grass fire that burned close to Interstate 580 in the Altamont Pass area near Tracy on Thursday afternoon, a Cal Fire captain said.
The fire charred more than 400 acres just west of Grant Line Road.
It was first reported around 1:15 p.m., Cal Fire Capt. Tim Main said.
Large amounts of smoke from the blaze could be seen in the nearby sky from Interstate 580.
A total of 12 fire engines, four bulldozers and eight aircraft were being used to battle the blaze.
The fire was contained around 3:30 p.m. The 30 mph winds made the blaze difficult to control, he said.
