Whoopi Goldberg's Berkeley Home Sells For Nearly $800k Over Asking Price
BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- 'Location, location, location.' That's the mantra for real estate folks.
The location in this case is Whoopi Goldberg's home at 2212 McKinley Avenue, in Berkeley. The quaint house not only sold fast, it went way over asking -- more likely because of its 'owner, owner owner.'
Goldberg bought the property in 1985 for $335,000, according to Zillow. When CBS SF first wrote about the listing, neighbors commented about the times the saw her there and how much she seemed to love Berkeley. They were sorry to see her go.
The actress, comedian, talk show host listed the 1890 Victorian in late June for $1.25 million.
It was described as a "beautifully restored 1890 Victorian-style home, and a two-story barn that has been (illegally) converted into an adorable cottage."
By mid-July, it sold for $2.025 million. That's more than $750,000 over asking -- exceptional, even in the Bay Area's hot real estate market.
No word yet as to who bought the home.
