Whole Foods Cutting 1,500 Jobs
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Whole Foods Market Inc. will be cutting about 1,500 jobs over the next 2 months.
That's more than 1.5% of the company's workforce. It is not clear how many of those jobs eliminated are in the Bay Area.
The company made the announcement on Monday.
The cuts will affect mostly employees working in the stores.
Whole Foods says it hopes the layoffs will help reduce costs.
The upscale organic grocer plans to launch a low-cost chain of stores. It is trying to shed the nickname, 'Whole Paycheck,' because of its reputation for high prices.
