Whitman, Brown Hit The Road In Final Stretch To Election Day
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - In the final stretch to Election Day, California's gubernatorial candidates continue on the stump in what has become the most expensive governor's race in state history.
Jerry Brown kicked off his final days in Oakland's warehouse district before heading to Stockton.
"If we're going to get people to work, we gotta create some jobs and we gotta build stuff and that's what I wanna do," said the veteran politician.
KCBS' Margie Shafer reports:
Meanwhile, Meg Whitman, who is behind in some well-known polls, is hitting the road reaching out to conservative Democrats and decline-to-state voters.
Whitman called from her bus, which was near Fresno then it's on to Bakersfield and Orange County, for some comments, claiming her track record proves she is a jobs creator and that Jerry Brown has been part of a war on jobs in California for the last 40 years.
Brown told supporters the deep recession means lean times.
"This can mean some tough decisions. That's just the way it is. Ultimately you've got to live within your means," said Brown.
Whitman said her solution to budget troubles is more employment.
When Election Day arrives, Brown will be at the Fox Theatre in Oakland and his opponent, Whitman, will be at the Universal Hilton in Los Angeles.
