While SF Rocks Outside Lands, San Jose Hosts 25th Annual Jazz Summer Fest
SAN JOSE (KCBS)— While many Bay Area music fans hip-hop and rock out to Kanye West and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers during this weekend's Outside Lands Festival in Golden Gate Park, San Jose will be hosting a bit of a smoother musical event.
The South Bay's 25th annual San Jose Jazz Summer Fest is August 8th through 10th and will attract more than 60,000 fans according to the festival's director, Bruce Laverty.
He's blown away by all the musicians that want to play the festival.

"I get about eight to 10 requests every single day of the whole year from people that want to come from every corner of the world from Siberia, Cuba, Brazil, everywhere," he said.
This year's event will be spread out on 12 stages and will include headliners like saxophone player, David Sanborn, the colorful Bootsy Collins of Parliament-Funkadelic fame and international acts like Cuba's Orquesta Con Sabor.
"[It's] about 25 percent jazz and the rest is just other great kinds of music like salsa, blues, New Orleans music; big band," Laverty said.
For the first time some of the acts will be performing at the beautiful 1920s California Theatre because of the recent closure of San Jose's Repertory Theatre due to bankruptcy.
