Wells Fargo To Help Replace Stolen Belmont School Computers
BELMONT (BCN) - Two days after school officials in Belmont discovered that more than $50,000 of equipment went missing from Carlmont High School over the holiday weekend, Wells Fargo announced it would donate $5,000 to help replace the stolen equipment.
Burglars broke into a classroom and stole 25 Apple MacBook computers and 30 iPods sometime between Wednesday evening and Monday morning, Belmont police said.
Wells Fargo, which is headquartered in the Bay Area and bills itself as the largest corporate giver among financial institutions to Bay Area non-profit organizations, made the philanthropic decision Tuesday morning.
"When we heard about what happened and how it impacts our local students, we wanted to step up and help," Wells Fargo regional president Wendy Haller said in a statement.
Sequoia Union High School District Superintendent James Lianides said the school was "grateful" for the bank's generosity because the stolen equipment is vital to the curriculum.
"Carlmont High uses technology daily to engage students in the curriculum, which makes replacement of the computers critical," Lianides said in the statement.
Police reviewed video footage from security cameras but are still searching for suspects and ask anyone with information related to the theft to contact investigators at (650) 595-7400.
