Website Offers Woodside $11M To Change Name In 'Publicity Stunt'
WOODSIDE (CBS SF) - SugarDaddie.com, a dating website that matches up wealthy individuals with younger partners, has offered the prosperous Peninsula enclave of Woodside more than $11 million to change its name.
According to published reports, in exchange for $11.6 million, the town would have to assume the name SugarDaddie.com, USA for the next 10 years, and re-brand city buildings accordingly. Woodiside would also have to publicly present the site's CEO with a key to the city.
Someone even went so far as to release a YouTube video of what SugarDaddie.com might look like:
City leaders have been largely dismissive of the offer, according to the San Jose Mercury news, and a company official even acknowledge the frivolous nature of the proposal.
"It is a publicity stunt," spokesman Darren Shuster said. "But that doesn't mean that we don't have the money to back it."
A Texas city recently rejected a similar offer.
