Weapon-Grabbing Niners, Seahawks Turning NFC West Into Arms Race
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS Sports) -- What once was a not-so-friendly rivalry between San Francisco and Seattle has turned into something more like an arms race, with the Seahawks making the first bold move by adding wide receiver Percy Harvin.
The 49ers countered this week by acquiring wide receiver Anquan Boldin from the Baltimore Ravens, a guy who helped beat them in Super Bowl XLVII. What's more, they have five of the first 93 choices in this year's draft and 14 overall, including three expected compensatory choices. That gives them the freedom to respond to Seattle, with speculation centered on New York Jets' cornerback Darrelle Revis.
The 49ers and Seahawks seem to be positioning themselves for a two-team race, and we're not talking about the NFC West -- we're talking about the NFC, period.
"We'll see," said 49ers' co-chairman John York. "I guess we won't be hearing about the 'crummy NFC West' anymore."
