Water Main Breaks Damage Streets In Emeryville, Berkeley
EMERYVILLE (CBS SF) - A section of an Emeryville street was closed Wednesday morning after a water main break, while a second, smaller water main ruptured in Berkeley Wednesday.
In Emeryville, Hollis Street was blocked off from 59th Street to Powell Street—which runs one block—because of a broken 10-inch water main. Police received reports about the break around 1:30 a.m.
Police said there are some buildings under construction in that area.
Police have since left the scene, however, East Bay Municipal Utility District crews are working to clear the road.
In Berkeley, a 6-inch pipe ruptured at 7th and Addison Wednesday morning, leaving dozens without water and damaging the street, according to EBMUD.
Crews were called to the break about 4:00 a.m. EBMUD said the pipe was at least 60 years old.
