Water Main Break Floods Menlo Park Street
MENLO PARK (CBS SF) - Crews are working to replace a water main that ruptured in Menlo Park and leaked water for more than three hours this morning, a public works supervisor said.
The 10-inch pipe broke at about 2:45 a.m. near Monte Rosa and Sharon Park drives, Menlo Park streets and water supervisor Irvin Meachum said.
About 100 homes in the area temporarily lost water service while crews worked to isolate and cap the leak, Meachum said.
The leak was capped at just before 6 a.m., and service has been restored to all but four homes, Meachum said.
There does not appear to have been any significant flood damage to the neighborhood, Meachum said. Most of the runoff water was captured by storm drains on nearby streets.

The cause of the break was still under investigation, though initial information indicates that the pipe broke under stress from gradual shifting of the ground soil, Meachum said.
The amount of water released during the incident has not been determined.
