Watch Metallica Play 'Enter Sandman' On Toy Instruments

By Radio.com Staff

(RADIO.COM) – Metallica joined Jimmy Fallon and The Roots in the Tonight Show Music Room to perform "Enter Sandman" using only classroom (toy) instruments.

Fallon manned a Casio keyboard and kazoo, James Hetfield sang mic-less and played a toy clarinet, Lars Ulrich beat away on a Fisher Price marching drum, Kirk Hammet blew into a melodica and Robert Trujillo bobbed his head while strumming a baby electric axe, all while The Roots played backup stuffed into the tiny music room.

The band joined the late night funnyman to celebrate this Friday's release of their new album, Hardwired…To Self-Destruct. Watch their performance below.

The Tonight Show performance occurred in the middle of Metallica's music video roll-out. Beginning at noon Wednesday, the band began releasing an album track every two hours via various music websites. The video premiers continue through Thursday morning at 6am EST.

"The songs are more linear," Ulrich told Rolling Stone of the album. "And by 'less frenetic,' I mean there are certainly less starts and stops in the songs. It cruises along a little bit more than the last record."
