Watch BMW's Electric Car Park Itself With A Single Smart Watch Command
LAS VEGAS (CBS SF) -- BMW's latest prototype, an electric car that can hunt for a parking spot all on its own, will be on display at the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas Tuesday.
The car uses four laser scanners to precisely know where all the objects are in the environment. Then with a simple command of a smart watch, it starts looking for a parking spot.
Once you're ready to leave the parking location, you simply give another command to your smart watch asking it to come pick you up.
At least 36 million vehicles across the world are now connected to the Internet, and that number is expected to climb to 152 million by 2020.
Ford Product Development Manager Gary Jablonsky says these "connected cars" now make up at least 90 percent of the company's fleet.
"This system lets the customers do what it is they want to do and get back to driving," Jablonsky said.
BMW isn't sure when its latest technology will make its way to the open road.
