Warriors Hold On To Beat Wizards, Snap Losing Skid

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Stephen Curry scored 29 points and the Golden State Warriors held on for a 106-102 victory over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.

The Warriors snapped a four-game losing streak and improved to 1-2 on their season-high seven-game road trip, but it wasn't easy. The Wizards, playing without coach Flip Saunders, trimmed a 20-point deficit to 103-102 with 6.3 seconds left on Nick Young's deep 3-pointer.

Curry then hit three free throws in the final 5.9 seconds to seal the win.

Monta Ellis scored 21 points and David Lee added nine points and 16 rebounds for the Warriors, who outrebounded Washington 54-40.

Nick Young had 31 points and Andray Blatche finished with 20 for Washington, which has dropped seven straight and 16 of 18.

Golden State grabbed control in the second quarter, with its reserves sparking a 9-0 run that made it 51-42 Warriors. Reggie Williams finished off the burst with an emphatic dunk with 5:42 left in the half.

Curry made a 3-pointer with less than a second left to give the Warriors a 62-53 lead at halftime.

Ellis' driving layup increased the advantage to 85-65 with 4:07 remaining in the third before Washington rallied to make things interesting.

Assistant coach Randy Wittman led the Wizards with Saunders away to be with his ailing mother.

NOTES: Forward Al Thornton, who agreed to a buyout with the Wizards on Tuesday and is expected to join the Warriors on Thursday once he clears waivers, worked out at the Verizon Center before the game. ... Wittman said he wanted Wall and Young to have 10 rebounds between them due to the perimeter nature of the game. The pair finished with two boards.
