VTA Solicits Public Opinion On South Bay Transit Needs
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Public hearings will be held this week in the South Bay to get the public's opinion on Santa Clara County''s transportation needs. The first one is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in San Jose.
The Valley Transportation Authority hosts these meetings every four years to try to get ideas for long-range planning involving BART, highways, streets, roads, buses and even bikes. However, this is the first year that the VTA has worked to tie in transit needs with housing needs.
KCBS' Betsey Gebhart Reports:
"We're looking to cut down, obviously, on greenhouse gas emissions," said the VTA's Brandi Childress. "Also, the closer transit is to housing, the fewer miles people travel."
Tuesday's meeting is at the King Library in downtown San Jose from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be two other hearings, one in Morgan Hill, and the other in Mountain View, Wednesday night.
