Vouchers From Marin Gun Buyback Can Be Redeemed Next Week
SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) -- People who received vouchers instead of cash during Marin County's gun buyback event last month can redeem them Feb. 15, according to the Marin County District Attorney's Office.
The county collected 827 guns at several police stations Jan. 15 with the intention of paying $200 for semi-automatic handguns and long guns and $100 for other guns.
The $43,000 set aside ran out in 90 minutes, and the district attorney's office issued $70,000 in vouchers instead. District Attorney Ed Berberian then appealed for tax-deductible donations from citizens and money from the Board of Supervisors.
Two-thirds of the money needed to make good on the vouchers has come from voluntary contributions from private individuals and private trusts, and the remaining funds are coming from the Marin County Board of Supervisors and city councils, he said.
The vouchers may be redeemed between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the Showcase Theater complex at 10 Avenue of the Flags in the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael, Berberian said.
Information about the voucher redemption is available at (415) 473-2727.
