Video Shows Tesla's Autopilot System Saving Uber Driver From Crash In Seattle Rain
SEATTLE (CBS SF) -- An Uber driver posted video of the autopilot system in his Tesla saving him from what could have been a nasty crash in Seattle traffic.
Jon Hall posted the video to YouTube Wednesday, and the 14-second clip has already racked up nearly half a million views.
"Was travelling a little under 45 mph. There was some rain, but roads were pretty dry. I was watching stopped traffic to my right," Hall wrote in the video's description.
The video shows Hall travelling in the left of two lanes as a Honda Civic waits to turn onto a cross street in front of him.
As Hall approaches the Honda, the driver decides to go for it, and cuts directly in front of Hall, whose autopilot system kicked in to save his bacon.
"I did not touch the brake. Car did all the work. Sadly no audio, because I had an Uber passenger and Washington has strict privacy laws about recording conversations," Hall wrote.
The autopilot feature of Hall's Tesla Model S P85D uses cameras and sensors to detect the proximity of cars in front of you and automatically apply the brakes to keep a safe distance.
The feature can also automatically change lanes, keeps the car within its lane, and warn drivers about potential side impacts.
