Video Shows 49ers Fans Beating, Kicking Vikings Fan In Levi's Stadium Parking Lot
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) – A video posted to Facebook Monday night after the 49ers-Vikings game shows a Vikings fan getting pummeled by a number of 49ers fans in the parking lot of Levi's Stadium.
UPDATE (9/18/15): 49ers Fans Arrested In Attack On Vikings Fan In Levi's Stadium Parking Lot
At least five different people wearing 49ers gear are seeing kicking and beating a man wearing a Vikings jersey as he was on the ground, including several kicks to the man's head.
Warning: Graphic Video, Explicit Language
The Facebook user who posted the video, Brandon Cosio, said in the caption that the video did not show what started the fight, saying it began with the Vikings fan shouting match with another 49ers fan not in the video:
The Viking fan shoved his wife into a barrier to try to get to the 49er fan, then at that point the 49er fan walked away from the situation and that's when the Viking fan may have got a little cocky. The Viking fan turned around and addressed everyone behind him (mostly 49er fans). He said "what's up, any of you f*****s want some?!" At that point everyone went silent for 2 seconds then as the Viking fan was turning around to walk away, the 49er fan in the black (at the beginning of the video who threw the first punch) tackled him to the ground. That's where the video starts.
Cosio also stated in the caption that there were no police to be found during the brawl, and gave recognition to a security guard who got in the middle of battle and was able to break it up with the help of other 49ers fans who came to the aid of the downed Vikings fan.
Cosio has since deleted the Facebook post, but the video was reposted on YouTube by another user.
The 49ers on Tuesday issued a statement on the incident: "We are aware of the disturbing incident following last night's game and are working in collaboration with the Santa Clara Police Department to investigate. The 49ers and our public safety partners have a steadfast commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors to Levi's Stadium and unacceptable behavior such as this will not be tolerated."
There was no immediate word on the status of the Vikings fan or of any injuries he may have suffered.
Santa Clara Police spokesman Lt. Kurt Clarke said by the time police arrived at the scene, everyone had left the area.
Clarke said investigators have been in touch with the victim and the investigation is making progress. He would not elaborate on the extent of the victim's injuries.
The fight was one of at least five reported assaults at Monday's 49ers game. There were 29 arrests made at Levi's Stadium Monday night, including four for assault. The rest were alcohol-related, Clarke said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the fight to contact Sgt. Ray Carreira at (408) 615-4849.
