Steph Curry To Sit Out Game 2 Against Rockets
OAKLAND (CBS SF) –While Steph Curry briefly emerged from the Golden State Warriors locker room for warm-ups Monday, he will sit out Game 2 against Rockets with a right ankle injury.
The official announcement was made shortly after 6:30 p.m.
Curry tweaked his ankle in the Warriors opening game NBA playoff victory against the Houston Rockets Saturday.
This will mark the second time this year that he has missed a game against the Rockets. He did not play in Golden State's 114-110 New Year's Eve win in Houston.
In that game, Klay Thompson scored 38 points, Draymond Green had 14 assists and Andrew Bogut pulled down 11 rebounds. All three will be in the lineup for Game Two.
Thompson said the team was preparing as though Curry will not play Monday.
"Obviously, it's 30 points out of the lineup," Thompson said. " (That's) a lot of playmaking, a lot of easy buckets. We just have to do it in a more meticulous way as far as moving the ball and by being patient. Without Steph we don't get those easy looks in transition he always gives us."
Thompson said the team will have to rely on "on our defense."
"As far as our mindset, that doesn't change," he said. "We have to play both ends as hard as we can."
Green said the team's versatility has been its strength and will be leaned on in Game Two if Curry can't go.
"Obviously it takes away a huge dynamic of our offense," he said. "But we can play it other ways…. A lot of stuff will be based on more ball movement, a lot more cutting."
