Victim Identified, Suspect Arrested In Fatal San Jose Stabbing
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- San Jose police have identified the suspect and victim in the city's 34th homicide of 2012.
Police say they have arrested 27-year-old Mateo Gutierrez of San Jose on suspicion fatally stabbing 28-year-old Daniel Marichalar of San Jose early Sunday morning.
On Sunday, officers responded to multiple reports of a fight involving about 30 people near Monterey Highway and Bernal Road at about 1 a.m., according to Officer Albert Morales.
Initial reports were that some of the subjects involved in the fight were armed, and that at least one person might have been shot, police said.
Arriving officers found Marichalar suffering from a stab wound, police said.
Marichalar was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
On Tuesday, police arrested Gutierrez.
Police said the motive for the homicide remains under investigation.
