Victim Identified In San Francisco Potrero Hill Shooting
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A man who was fatally shot in San Francisco's Potrero Hill neighborhood on Thursday has been identified by the medical examiner's office as 24-year-old Jimmy Chandler.
The shooting was reported around 7:50 p.m. Thursday near 23rd and Arkansas streets and also injured a 21-year-old woman, police spokesman Officer Gordon Shyy said.
Chandler and the woman were in a vehicle when they were shot, according to police.
They were taken to San Francisco General Hospital where Chandler, a San Francisco resident, succumbed to his injuries. The woman was in stable condition Friday, Shyy said.
A large crowd gathered at the shooting scene and additional officers were called to keep the crowd back, Shyy said.
At some point, the crowd became hostile and officers were forced to use pepper spray, which caused people to leave the area, Shyy said.
One officer was injured during the melee and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to Shyy.
No arrests had been made in connection with the shooting and no suspect information was immediately available today, police said.
