Vehicles Torched In Hayward Carport Fire
HAYWARD (BCN) - A fire that destroyed four vehicles and damaged a carport at an apartment complex in Hayward early Tuesday morning is being treated as suspicious, a fire spokesman said.
The fire was reported at 3:52 a.m. outside an apartment building near the intersection of Arf Avenue and Hesperian Boulevard, Hayward fire Capt. Thor Poulsen said.
Firefighters arrived to find the carport and four vehicles ablaze. Flames spread to the exterior of the nearby building, causing some apartment windows to shatter, but fire crews were able to extinguish
the blaze before it spread inside any units, Poulsen said.
Poulsen called the fire "highly suspicious due to four cars being involved at one time."
The cause has not yet been determined. There are few clues because "the cars are so badly burned out," Poulsen said.
No one was injured in the blaze. Residents of the apartments were briefly evacuated from the building but have been allowed to return, Poulsen said.
