School Bus Carrying Carmel Football Team Struck by Projectiles on Highway 101
SAN JOSE (KPIX) -- One of two school buses carrying a Carmel high school football team to a Friday night playoff game in San Jose was hit by some kind of projectile at about on northbound Highway 101 near Prunedale in Monterey County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Another vehicle, a Mercedes, also had its windows shattered a few minutes earlier.
"It was a scary moment for everyone," said Bill Lee, whose son is quarterback for the team. "They heard a loud bang and glass flying around so they did not know what happened. It was an all-of-a-sudden type thing," Lee added.
The Carmel school district sent another bus and the Carmel High Padres pulled into Branham High a little late for their game against the Bruins as parents and supporters welcomed them.
The bus that was hit had one of its emergency exit windows shattered and one student did suffer some glass cuts but is OK and made the trip with the team.
For more than a year the CHP has been investigating a series of reports about projectiles hitting vehicles along that same stretch of Highway 101 but, so far, there have been no arrests.
