Vandals Smash Windows, Loot From Emeryville Businesses During 4th Night Of East Bay Protests

EMERYVILLE (CBS SF) -- The fourth night of East Bay protests over the deaths of two black men in New York and Missouri was mostly peaceful Wednesday.

But dozens of people smashed and looted a closed Pak-n-Save grocery store on the 3800 block of San Pablo Avenue in Emeryville.

Police said vandals smashed the front glass doors as about 40 people ran inside and looted the business, stealing cash from an unattended register and making off with a coin dispenser and liquor bottles.

There were also broken windows and looting problems at three other businesses nearby, including a 7-Eleven where the employees were reportedly threatened.

Officers said they were pelted with chunks of concrete and beer bottles. No arrests were made.
