Vallejo Woman Killed In Assault, Boyfriend Arrested
VALLEJO (CBS 5) -- A Vallejo man is under arrest Monday night, facing murder charges in the beating death of his girlfriend.
According to police, around 1 p.m. Monday, authorities received a tip that a woman was killed next to a tennis court near the intersection of Glen Cove Parkway and South Regatta Drive.
When detectives arrived, they found a large pool of blood and a car belonging to 33-year-old Ritchie Campued. Her body was not found at the scene.
"There was blood everywhere," said Lt. Abel Tenorio, spokesman for Vallejo Police. "Handprints full of blood. It appeared to us that someone was either severely injured or possibly dead at that time."
A manhunt ensued for several hours. Around 5:30 p.m., Napa County Sheriff's deputies notified Vallejo police that they found Campued's body 11 and a half miles away at an apartment complex in American Canyon.
Campued's body was slumped over in the passenger seat of a car in the parking lot. The murder weapon was a baseball bat, said Tenorio.
"In the vehicle, in American Canyon, we did find a metal bat," said Tenorio. "Like a baseball bat inside the vehicle where Ms. Campued was found with blood on it."
Police say the suspect, 39-year-old William Ubando, had driven out to American Canyon where a co-worker lived. The co-worker immediately called 911 and Ubando was arrested without incident. Police say the suspect was very cooperative and volunteered details of the murder.
Police suspect the motive was the fact that Campued, Ubando's girlfriend of 10 months, was in the process of breaking up with him.
Ubando has no criminal record, Tenorio said.
