Vallejo Teacher Ordered To Stand Trial On Rape Charge
VALLEJO (CBS/AP) - A Vallejo special education teacher has been ordered to stand trial on charges that he raped an 18-year-old developmentally disabled teacher's aide.
Solano County Superior Court Judge Tim Kam concluded on Monday that there was enough evidence for the case against 56-year-old Jerry Johnson to go to trial. The Times-Herald of Vallejo reports that the decision came at the end of a preliminary hearing.
Johnson is accused of attacking the 18-year-old during school hours at the end of February at Loma Vista Elementary School, where he taught. Her parents reported the alleged rape in June.
Prosecutors say Johnson is also facing an enhancement of great bodily injury because the girl is pregnant. He has pleaded not guilty.
According to authorities, the girl has the mental capacity of a 7-year-old.
