Vallejo Police Identify Man Fatally Shot By Officers
VALLEJO (BCN) -- Vallejo police Tuesday afternoon identified a man who was fatally shot by police after a pursuit Friday afternoon as 45-year-old Sherman Peacock, of Vallejo.
Police tried to stop Peacock's car for a vehicle code violation around 4:40 p.m. Friday, Sgt. Jeff Bassett said.
A low-speed chase began and at the beginning of the chase a passenger in the car, 54-year-old Regynold Jackson, jumped out, Bassett said.
He was initially detained but then released, Bassett said.
Officers chased the car through north Vallejo for several minutes before Peacock pulled over in the 1000 block of Corcoran Street, Bassett said.
Bassett said Peacock refused officers' orders to come out of the car for several minutes as other patrol units arrived, including two from American Canyon.
Peacock suddenly emerged from his car and pointed a large-caliber revolver at the officers, according to Bassett.
Several officers fired their weapons and Peacock was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene, Bassett said.
Jackson was arrested for assault at about 1 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 100 block of Wendy Street when he pulled out a knife and threatened a family member in the presence of police who were there to question him again, Bassett said.
The Solano County District Attorney's Office is also investigating the officer-involved shooting, Bassett said.
