Vallejo Police Fatally Shoot Man Following Chase
VALLEJO (BCN) -- Vallejo police officers fatally shot a 45-year-old man when he allegedly pointed a revolver at them following a low-speed vehicle pursuit Friday, the Police Department said.
Around 4:35 p.m., officers tried to initiate a traffic stop in the north end of town, but the driver refused to pull over, police said.
Police followed the man for several minutes until he finally yielded in the 1000 block of Corcoran Avenue. Officers ordered the driver to exit the vehicle, but he refused to comply for several minutes.
Other patrol units, including officers from American Canyon, arrived on scene to assist.
Officers will still ordering the suspect to exit the vehicle when he emerged with a large-caliber revolver and pointed it at police, the department said.
The officers fired on the driver, who was hit multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was a 45-year-old Vallejo resident, but his identity had not been released Friday night pending notification of his next of kin.
A passenger, identified at Regynold Jackson, jumped out of the vehicle early in the pursuit, police said.
He was detained and released prior to the shooting, but police are now looking for him for questioning in connection with the case.
