Vallejo Out Of Bankruptcy And Hiring More People
VALLEJO (KCBS) --- The city of Vallejo, which went through a highly-publicized bankruptcy, is doing a complete economic turnaround, and that's creating a buzz in the business community.
Vallejo is now out of bankruptcy after going through major reorganization. A few new police officers and several firefighters have been hired, the city has a new economic development director, and there is a search for a human resources analyst to fill 20 vacant positions in the Public Works Department.
The president of the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce Anita Hawkes said the business community has sensed a positive change in the climate.
KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:
"We're all excited with the new turn the city seems to be taking," Hawkes said. "We're really pleased that they've opened up a one stop permit shop. Then they're revising and redoing the prices for the fees, which really makes a big difference."
The city of Vallejo went into Chapter 9 protection after filing for bankruptcy in May of 2008. It received the green light to exit from a federal bankruptcy judge last month. The city has passed a balanced budget with no service reductions or layoffs.
