Vallejo Man Shot, Killed While Driving SUV

VALLEJO (CBS SF) - Vallejo police were investigating the murder of a man who was shot while driving his SUV Sunday night, a police lieutenant said.

Officers responded to a reported hit-and-run at Sonoma Boulevard and Mini Drive around 8:40 p.m., Vallejo police Lt. Ken Weaver said.

When police arrived, they found a Ford Explorer that had rolled over the center median of northbound Sonoma Boulevard. The driver, 28-year-old Joseph Maes Pittier of Vallejo, had been shot in his upper body, Weaver said.

Pittier was pronounced dead at the scene and the Solano County coroner's office will conduct an autopsy this week.

Investigators identified a crime scene in the parking lot of a Chevron gas station, where detectives are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses, he said.

Pittier's murder marks Vallejo's 12th homicide this year, Weaver said.

Anyone with information regarding the murder is asked to call the Vallejo Police Department at (800) 488-9383. Anonymous tips can be reported to the Solano Crime Stoppers at (707) 644-7867. The tip line offers cash rewards for phone tips that solve violent and serious crimes committed in the Vallejo area.
