Vallejo Jewelry Store Owner Kills Man During Attempted Robbery
VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- The owner of a Vallejo jewelry store shot and killed a robbery suspect inside the store's office Thursday afternoon, a Vallejo police lieutenant said.
The wife of the owner called police at 12:52 p.m. to report a robbery was occurring and someone had been shot at Carrillo's Jewelry Store at 529 Broadway St., Lt. Ken Weaver said.
The couple told responding officers a man entered the store, vaulted the counter, pulled a handgun and entered the jewelry store's office, Weaver said.
The owner inside the office feared for his life and shot the suspect with a handgun, Weaver said.
Vallejo Fire Department and Medic Ambulance responders unsuccessfully tried to revive the suspect, Weaver said.
The suspect is a 37-year-old Hercules man, Weaver said. His identity is being withheld until his relatives are notified.
Police interviewed the owner and his wife and were collecting evidence inside the store Thursday afternoon, Weaver said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact detective Drew Ramsey at (800) 488-9383.
