Standoff, Fire At Vallejo Home May Be Linked To Craigslist Robbery
VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- An armed robbery in Vallejo Friday afternoon left one injured and led to a standoff with police at a house that caught fire.
Officers responded to a robbery in the 1400 block of North Camino Alto around 1:15 p.m.
Six suspects who were armed with handguns beat and robbed a victim who was taken to a hospital with head wounds, police said.
A police spokesman said it may have been a Craigslist robbery in which victims are lured through ads posted on the website. The victim was identified as a male from out of town.
A witness told officers that the suspects fled in a green vehicle with chrome wheels, police said.
KCBS' Bob Butler Reports:
Officers saw the suspect vehicle park in front of a home at 1041 Castlewood Drive at around 1:40 p.m. and saw at least five people walk toward the home, police said.
Officers attempted to contact the people inside the residence but were unsuccessful and obtained a search warrant, police said.
SWAT teams responded around 5:15 p.m., deployed non-flammable tear gas into the home and waited for the suspects to exit, police said.
Officers heard what sounded like gunshots inside the home and saw smoke coming from the roof, according to police.
The fire broke out after 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Vallejo firefighters extinguished the fire and officers searched the home. No suspects were found, police said.
No injuries were reported from the fire and the cause of the blaze was not immediately known. Police said the fire was not sparked by the tear gas.
Police said one dog died in the blaze and another dog in the home survived.
The robbery is still under investigation, police said.
