Vallejo Ferry Riders With Monthly Passes Want Priority Over Tourists
VALLEJO (KCBS) – Longtime riders of the ferry from Vallejo to San Francisco are asking the boat's owners to reserve space for them. The request comes after several monthly pass holders were bumped by tourists.
Baylink runs about six ferries each day between Vallejo and San Francisco. There is plenty of room on the early morning boats, but the ride is crowded by the 10 a.m. boat.
"I think everyone's got the week off from work this week so they're taking the ferry into the city to go shopping," said Jennifer Negretti. "I haven't been bumped off recently. It usually only happens when there's a Giants game during the summer."
KCBS' Bob Butler Reports:
Negretti said that people paying nearly $300 each month for a pass should get priority boarding. But Baylink General Manager Marty Robbins said that it's just not possible.
"That is in violation of FTA rules and we depend on the Federal Transit Administration to partially fund our service, so our hands are tied," said Robbins.
Frequent riders said that the best advice is just to show up early during busy times, including the holidays.
