Dog Expected To Survive Vallejo Freeway Dragging
VALLEJO (CBS SF) - An East Bay mother and son said a young German shepherd is lucky to be alive after they witnessed the animal being dragged by a pickup truck in Vallejo last week.
As the Vallejo Times-Herald originally reported, Pinole resident Angie Porter and her 13-year-old son River took the ramp from I-80 to I-780 toward Benicia last Thursday morning when they saw the dog being dragged on the side of a black truck with tinted windows.
The animal's feet dragged on the pavement as its body bounced against the side of the vehicle for more than a mile while Porter tried to get the driver to pull over, according to the Times-Herald report.
Porter said the dog's tether broke as the driver took the Glen Cove exit, yet the driver kept going.
Porter, who owns dogs herself, ran to the animal and found that it was unable to move. A Humane Society representative showed up a short time later and to the animal to the vet.
The dog, now being called Freeway, lost a leg but will survive.
The Humane Society has said they will cover the veterinarian bill and put Freeway up for adoption after he recuperates.
Freeway had no color or other identification. The driver involved in the incident has still not been located.
