Vacaville Teen Accused Of Rape, Stabbings To Be Tried As Adult

VACAVILLE (BCN) -- A 14-year-old boy accused of raping and stabbing a teenage girl and stabbing her young brother at their Vacaville home over the weekend will be tried as an adult, police said Tuesday.

The suspect, Alexander Cervantes, is being held in the Solano County Juvenile Hall on $9 million bail and faces 15 charges stemming from the Sunday attack, which left the 13-year-old girl suffering from more than 30 stab wounds, police said.

The girl's 18-month-old brother was also stabbed more than 10 times. The pair was able to escape and run to a neighbor's home for help, police said.

They were originally listed in critical condition at the University of California, Davis hospital but are expected to survive.

Cervantes faces two counts of attempted murder; two counts of torture; one count each of sodomy, rape, and oral copulation on a child under 14; one count of sexual penetration with a foreign object; and one count of forcible lewd act on a child.

He is also being charged with two counts of burglary; one count of assault with intent to commit rape; and two counts of aggravated mayhem, according to police.

The attack began early Sunday morning when the suspect allegedly entered the victims' home in the 1200 block of Balsam Way and woke up the girl, police said.

He then allegedly sexually assaulted and stabbed her before attacking her brother as well, according to police.

A SWAT team responded to the scene around 2:35 a.m.

Officers allegedly found Cervantes inside the victims' home and arrested him without incident, police said.

Police had not released a possible motive for the crimes Tuesday, but an initial investigation revealed the suspect was likely acquainted with the victims' older brother.
