Union City Police Officer, 2 Others Hurt In Multi-Vehicle Collision In Fremont

FREMONT (CBS SF) -- An intersection in Fremont has reopened following a three-car collision that sent an on-duty Union City police officer and two other people to the hospital Monday morning, police said.

The intersection of Paseo Padre Parkway and Fremont Boulevard reopened Monday afternoon following a crash that occurred there shortly after 8 a.m.

The officer was traveling west on Paseo Padre in a marked patrol car with lights and sirens on en route to an in-progress burglary call in Union City, according to Fremont police.

Investigators believe a woman driving south on Fremont Boulevard collided with the patrol car when the officer came to a stop and then attempted to clear the intersection before proceeding. There were two passengers in the woman's car, police said.

The patrol car and the woman's car sustained major damage and impacted a third vehicle, a minivan that was stopped at the light in the eastbound direction of Paseo Padre Parkway. The male driver and juvenile passenger of the minivan were not injured.

Police said the Union City officer, the female driver, and one of her two passengers, a juvenile, were transported to various hospitals to be treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The officer has since been treated and released.

There were no updates immediately available on the condition of the woman and the juvenile.

The circumstances and cause of the collision were still under investigation.

Police said the stretch of Paseo Padre Parkway near the collision is commonly traveled by public safety agencies that border or have jurisdiction within Fremont.
