Underage Driver, 5 Other Teens Injured In Napa Wreck
NAPA (CBS SF) - Six Napa teens were injured when a speeding Honda Civic driven by a 15-year-old girl crashed into a tree in unincorporated Napa County on Wednesday night, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The driver of the 1992 Honda was speeding north on Buhman Avenue south of Congress Valley Road near Napa city limits around 9:10 p.m. when she lost control on a curve and crashed into a tree on the right side of the road, CHP Officer Jake Ramos said.
Six of the car's seven occupants, who were crammed into the five-person car, were taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, Ramos said.
The 15-year-old driver was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries.
Another 15-year-old girl fled the crash scene before emergency medical crews arrived and it's unknown if she was injured, Ramos said.
The other five occupants were not wearing seatbelts, Ramos said.
Alejandro Garcia, 19, suffered moderate injuries and Daniel Herrera, 19, suffered major injuries, Ramos said.
Three boys ages 14, 15 and 16, also suffered major injuries, Ramos said.
The 15-year-old driver does not have a license, and it is unknown if she has a permit, Ramos said. It is illegal for her to be driving a car without a person at least 25 years old in the vehicle, he said.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and the driver was not arrested, Ramos said.
