UC Regents Approve Online Pilot Program
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) The University of California is joining a growing number of private schools that offer online college courses.
"We're trying to raise $6 million to get the pilot going," said Dean of UC Berkeley's Law School Christopher Edley.
The UC Regents on Wednesday approved moving forward with the pilot program and Edley is leading the exploration into online education within the University of California system.

"That is fully online as opposed to hybrid," said Edley. "That is anytime, anywhere."
Opponents contend online courses for undergraduates will lower education standards. But UC Regent Sherry Lansing said cyber learning is the future.
"Kids learn differently. I watch children in schools today and the computer is just part of their life," said Lansing.
The pilot program will be closely monitored to see if goals are reached. Many believe it is a chance for wider access to university courses and will lower the cost of education for students.
"The reason to bother with thinking about expanding our commitment to fully online classes, is about democratizing excellence," said Edley.
At least one Regent said any student pursuing a bachelor's degree should have some on campus experience.
