Two Wounded In Morgan Hill Shooting; Gunman Remains At Large
MORGAN HILL (CBS SF) -- Two shooting victims were hospitalized early Friday after gunfire erupted in a quiet Morgan Hill neighborhood, authorities said.
Morgan Hill police received numerous calls around 8 p.m. Thursday from residents reporting gunfire in a neighborhood near the intersection of Cochran Road and Mission View.
Arriving officers could not locate any victims or suspects, but the street was littered with spent gun shell casings.
"We found multiple shell casings in the intersection," Morgan Hill police Sgt. Bill Norman said. "While they (the officers) were investigating this crime scene, we got a call from San Jose PD saying that San Jose (police) was out with a vehicle that was occupied by two gunshot wound victims. Both males."
After the shooting, the victims apparently drove their shot-up car to South San Jose, where police were called, said Norman.
Investigators said the victims' car had been headed northbound on Mission View and had stopped at the intersection of Cochrane Road, where the suspect's car pulled alongside and fired multiple shots at them, Norman said.
The victims fled west on Cochrane, then north on U.S. Highway 101, where they eventually stopped on Bernal Road in San Jose.
The suspects' car is believed to be a dark-colored sedan that was last seen headed east on Cochrane Road. No arrests have been made.
The men, ages 19 and 22, were taken to two different hospitals, one in serious condition and the other with life-threatening injuries. Their identities were not released.
A witness has told police there were two vehicles involved in the shooting. No other details of the shooting were immediately available.
The incident remained under investigation.
