Two Girls Trick-Or-Treating In Santa Rosa Struck By Vehicle
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- Two young girls trick-or-treating near Southwest Community Park in Santa Rosa were struck by a vehicle on the evening of Halloween, police said.
Santa Rosa police said the two girls, ages 4 and 9, were crossing the street with a group of trick-or-treaters shortly before 7 p.m. when they were struck.
The four-year-old girl was not injured, but the nine-year-old girl was briefly knocked unconscious. Shortly after the collision, the nine-year-old girl regained consciousness and was talking, witnesses told police.
The nine-year-old was taken to a hospital for treatment and there was no immediate update on her condition.
Santa Rosa police said the vehicle was driven by 60-year-old Santa Rosa resident Thomas Vinci. The driver was traveling west on Tuxhorn Drive and turned left onto Rain Dance Way in South Santa Rosa, just as the group of trick-or-treaters was crossing at the intersection.
Police said the conditions were rainy and dark at the time of the collision. They said they have already ruled our alcohol or cellphone use as factors in the collision.
Officers said Vinci remained at the scene and cooperated with the officers' investigation.
