Two Boys Accused Of Stealing Rifle From Vallejo Home
VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- Two juveniles were taken into custody Monday afternoon after they were seen running with a rifle case on Columbus Parkway in the vicinity of Solano Community College's Vallejo campus, a California Highway Patrol sergeant said.
A witness called the CHP around 1:15 p.m. to report the incident, Sgt. Diana McDermott said.
Two CHP officers, the CHP K9 unit, CHP air support and five Vallejo Police Department units responded, McDermott said.
The 12- and 13-year-old boys were seen running from a nearby hillside and were taken into custody after a foot pursuit, McDermott said.
KCBS' Jeffrey Schaub Reports:
The youths had a scoped .22 rifle with ammunition they stole from a home they broke into in the 4000 block of Irene Drive, McDermott said.
Vallejo police Lt. Lee Horton said the boys were heading into the nearby hills to shoot the rifle. One of the boys was released to his parents and the other was taken to juvenile hall, Horton said.
